Diablo 1 in the Browser
The original 1996 Diablo running in your browser through WebAssembly. The shareware is free; bring your own files for the full game.
OUR TAKE / EDITORIAL
Why it's on the wall
Tristram's music in a browser tab is a cheap kind of time travel. The shareware's first levels are the whole 1996 experience in miniature.
Written by Neon Gamewall. An opinion, not a player rating.
GAME BRIEF
What's the game?
diabloweb is d07RiV's port of the original Diablo to the browser, built on the devilution reverse-engineering project and compiled to WebAssembly. Click Play Shareware and the free shareware version downloads (about 50 MB) and runs: the Warrior and the opening dungeon levels of Tristram. If you own the game on GOG you can drop in your own DIABDAT.MPQ for the full thing.
BEFORE YOU PLAY
What to expect
An unofficial port, not affiliated with Blizzard; Diablo remains their property, and what you play for free here is the shareware Blizzard released. Mouse-driven like the original, desktop only in practice. The first load takes a minute. No AI build claim is made; this is a famous open-source project with thousands of GitHub stars.
Controls: Mouse, exactly like 1996. Keyboard shortcuts as in the original.
