What's the game?

A server browser for the CS 1.6 community: pick a server by map, mode, region or ping and you join the same public servers that Steam players use. On the menu it counted 3,412 players and 332 bots in the last hour. Servers run classic bomb defusal and hostage rescue as well as deathmatch, aim maps, gun game, zombie mod, surf and bunny hop. Compete is a ranked 5v5 queue with full MR15 matches, hosted in one player's browser. The site also runs Sven Co-op maps and has a map editor.

What to expect

Unofficial: Counter-Strike belongs to Valve. The site's FAQ says this runs CS 1.6 on the open-source FWGS engine compiled to WebAssembly. Free with no account. The site shows Google ads, and the menu offers an optional desktop client ('Download for Windows', a 3.1 MB installer) that you do not need. The engine is about 22 MB before you join a server. The servers are run by their communities, and some show their own message screens with VIP shops when you join. Quick Join drops you on a random server. In our tests one server kicked us with 'STEAM validation rejected' and another started a 194 MB download of its own mod files. Choosing a classic map from the Server Browser avoids both; HL2GO's Dust2 deathmatch only fetched a few small files.

Controls: WASD move, mouse look, left click fire, right click secondary attack, Space jump, Ctrl duck, Shift walk, E use, R reload, B buy menu, 1-5 weapon slots, Q last weapon, G drop weapon, Tab scoreboard, M choose team, Y/U chat, K voice.
