What's the game?
The menu has five ways to race. Grand Prix is the Chamo Cup, five tracks for a trophy; Versus Race is one race on any track with your own laps, items and ghosts; Time Trial puts you against your own ghost with three mushrooms; the Daily Challenge gives everyone the same track and kart for the day (Mars Aliens at 150cc when we looked); Online is quick play with strangers or a public or private room you share by code or invite link, with text chat and voice chat. You pick a racer (Chamo, Momo, Bao and the rest), edit your own, and choose an engine class. Hold drift through a corner and the sparks go blue, orange, then purple for a mini-turbo; coins raise your top speed; item boxes hand out bananas and red shells; and one kart, Bumblebee, transforms into a robot.
BEFORE YOU PLAY
What to expect
Free, no download and no account: a player code keeps your name and best times across your phone and computer. About 2 MB to the menu, the lightest racer on the wall, and the page loads only its own scripts. A 'What's new' note opens first. One player was online when we looked. We opened it in Chrome and went through the menus; the racing details come from the game's own How to Play. The game has touch controls (drag a pad to steer, the kart accelerates by itself, or tilt the phone to steer); we have not tried them on a phone. The creator is not named on the page.
Controls: From the game's How to Play: W or ↑ accelerate, S or ↓ brake and reverse, A/D or ←/→ steer, Space or Shift hop and drift, E or X use an item (hold it to drag a banana or red shell behind you as a shield), C look behind, Esc pause; online, Enter or T to chat and V for voice. Gamepads work.
