City 2026
A low-poly remake of SimCity 2000 in a browser tab: zone, build and run a city with the original's rules, its menus, disasters and newspaper, in new 3D graphics.
OUR TAKE / EDITORIAL
Why it's on the wall
The most ambitious AI-made game we have listed: SimCity 2000's own rules, rebuilt and redrawn, with every menu where you remember it.
Written by Neon Gamewall. An opinion, not a player rating.
GAME BRIEF
What's the game?
The title screen opens on a low-poly bay city with a suspension bridge, a stadium and a ferry, and the classic menu: Start New City, Load Saved City, Demo Cities and Edit New Map, under a menu bar with Speed, Disasters, Windows and the Newspaper. We loaded the Millbrook demo (a river town from 1900, thirty years on in 1932, population 14,240): an isometric map with the neighbouring towns around the edge, the building toolbar down the side, $40,000 in the bank, the calendar running, and an advisor already warning 'Hospitals Overcrowded'. The other demos are Port Halcyon (1995) and Nova Arcadia (2110, population 105,369).
BEFORE YOU PLAY
What to expect
Free, no account and no download; it is a big load, about 35 MB and half a minute before the title screen. The title screen calls it 'an independent fan project, not affiliated with Electronic Arts or Maxis'. Its maker says the depth-of-field effect is on by default and can be turned off under Options > Display if it runs slowly. Music by Kevin MacLeod under CC BY 4.0.
